How we compare
A marketplace is the established way to run a Minecraft server store, and for some servers it is still the right one. Here is how the two approaches actually differ, including where a marketplace is better than us.
| TehkStore | A marketplace | |
|---|---|---|
| Who takes the payment | Your own Stripe account | The marketplace takes it on your behalf |
| Where the money lands | In your account, when the player pays | With the marketplace, and is paid out to you |
| What you pay for the software | A flat monthly or annual fee | A share of what you sell |
| Who your customers buy from | You | The marketplace, on your behalf |
| Customization | Drag and drop widgets | HTML and CSS modification done by you |
| Custom URL | Included with the price | Have to pay an extra monthly fee on top of the share |
The honest summary
If you want somebody else to be the merchant and take care of sales tax across every country your players live in, a marketplace does that and we do not. That is a real service and for some servers it is worth a share of the takings.
If you would rather own the relationship — your payment account, your money arriving directly, a flat bill that does not grow when you have a good month — that is what we built.
